Announcement:
The Archibull Prize Program Takes an Extended Hiatus

After 15 years of inspiring learning and creativity, the Archibull Prize program is being put on hiatus. This incredible journey has reached 500 schools and impacted over 500,000 students, who through the program, have gained vital skills to explore the world. They've learned to appreciate diverse perspectives, communicate effectively with various audiences, and express their solutions for complex problems artistically on life-size fiberglass cows.

In partnership with our Young Farming Champions, participants have developed a deeper understanding of agriculture and environmental stewardship, contributing significantly to sustaining our beautiful planet. We celebrate the achievements of this program and look forward to future endeavours in this space.

We are using this Hiatus to revamp our website to match the updated school curriculum.

Heartfelt thanks to all the teachers and students who have participated and left a legacy.

The Archibull Prize

We’re thrilled to introduce you to the Archibull Prize program, an innovative action learning program that immerses secondary school students in agriculture and sustainability awareness, understanding, and action through art, design, creativity, teamwork, and project development. This program is uniquely aligned with curriculum learning areas, general capabilities, all three cross-curriculum priorities, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

How it Works and What it Offers

The Archibull Prize is an engaging and innovative program where participating schools embark on a journey to explore and address a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (Global Goal) through the lens of agriculture. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how the program works:

  1. Identify a Global Goal: Each participating school will select a Global Goal to investigate. This goal will be the focus of their project, providing a unique perspective on agriculture’s role in achieving sustainable development.
  2. Meet the Young Farming Champion: Schools will be assigned a Young Farming Champion who will visit the school and share personal insights from their experiences in the agriculture sector.
  3. Design and Deliver a Community Action Project: Schools will collaborate with their Young Farming Champion and local experts to design and deliver a Global Goal Community Action Project. This project will allow students to apply their learnings and make a real impact in their community. The students will report on the outcomes of this project.
  4. Create Artwork on a Fibreglass Cow: To culminate their journey, students will be provided with a life-size fibreglass cow. They will create an artwork on this cow, reflecting their investigations and insights on the selected Global Goal and the theme for 2022.

Additional Features

  • Digital Learning Journey Journal: Students document their learning journey in a digital journal, creatively communicating their experiences and learnings to a broader audience. This encourages students to reflect on their learning process, enhancing their digital literacy and communication skills, and to share their insights and achievements with the community.
  • Professional Learning Opportunities: Professional learning opportunities are provided for teachers to enhance their skills and knowledge in sustainability education and project facilitation. This supports teachers in effectively delivering the program and ensures ongoing professional development in the field of sustainability education.
  • Integration with Curriculum: The Archibull Prize program is designed to align with various aspects of the Australian Curriculum and NSW Curriculum, providing a comprehensive educational experience that covers key learning areas and general capabilities.
  • Cross-Curricular Opportunities: This program encourages cross-curricular collaboration among teachers, allowing for an interdisciplinary approach that enriches students’ understanding of sustainability through different subject lenses.

The Archibull Prize program is more than just an educational initiative; it’s a movement towards creating a generation of informed, creative, and proactive changemakers. We are committed to supporting you in this exciting journey and look forward to witnessing the inspiring projects and artworks your students will create.
